FESTIVE MAKEUP FAVOURITES

Festive Makeup Favourites 1

Festive makeup is one of my favourite parts of this time of year, with any opportunity to pile glitter on my face being a good one. And I often find the getting ready for a night out more exciting than the night out itself as I love playing around with my makeup collection.

I’m definitely my least ambitious when it comes to base makeup, because lets be honest here, buying pretty lipsticks and eyeshadow palettes is much most exciting. As I’m quite pale I don’t have the biggest collection of foundations going (well, I do, but most leave me resembling a wotsit so they’ve been retired) so I tend to just go with the coverage I need at the time. During the day I often favour a dewy finish but at night I much prefer to play with highlighter, so I use a powder to matte my skin and then strobe away with my favourite MAC Minerialize Skin Finish in Lightscapade on the higher points of my face i.e.cheekbones, brow bone and cupids bow.

Base aside, I love to play around with my eyeshadow all times of the year, but for the festive season, I have a few special favourites. A new addition to my collection is my Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette which I received in October. This palette contains a vast selection of neutrals all on the cooler side which I find complement my skin tone the best. I’m particularly loving YDK right now which is a very in-your-face frosty rose-gold which I pack onto the lid with a flat brush and Busted blended in the crease. Instead of using a liquid eyeliner which I can find looks a little too much with heavier makeup on me, I’ve been enjoying smudging a darker eyeshadow, such as MAC Eyeshadow in Black Tied along the lash line smoked out. I love how this can easily transform an eye look and it’s super easy to do as it’s certainly not about precision. For my daytime makeup, this Stila Eyeshadow in Oasis (similar linked) has won my heart. It’s more of a yellow gold with a satin finish, but it’s perfect to just sweep over my eyelids for that wash of Christmas cheer.

When it comes to lips, depending on my eye makeup I’ll either go for a neutral lip or my fail-safe matte red, for which I’ve been loving the Topshop Velvet Lips in Blood Orange (similar linked) recently. As the name suggests, it’s more on the red orange side which can make it a little trickier to wear but I love the pop of colour it can add to an all neutral outfit. Plus the formula of this is incredible, I’m talking you can go through eating a burger and it won’t have budged. Amazing. If I’ve decided to go dramatic with my eye makeup, then I head straight for a neutral lip product. Fun fact: until last year, I didn’t own any neutral lip colours. One of my favourites is the Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick in 45 which is a dark nude colour. It’s actually slightly lighter than my natural lip colour (which would normally terrify me) but it’s satin formula means it doesn’t cling at all if I’ve been rubbish at remembering to apply lip balm and it’s one of those lipsticks you can apply without a mirror – which is great for someone like me who doesn’t like to faff around once you’ve left the house reapplying. And if I’m after a more matte finish, then I recently picked up the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Stockholm which is again another darker nude, but this time more on the terracotta/peachy side.

What are your festive makeup favourites? Any you think I should give a go?

A FEW FAVOURITES FROM BAREMINERALS

Bareminerals 1

Bareminerals 2

In all honesty, until just recently, bareMinerals have been a makeup brand I’d never really thought of trying out. However, after attending a few events hosted by a local stand in Fenwick Newcastle, I’ve been enjoying many of their products ever since so I thought I’d go through some of my favourites.

Base-wise I’m still very new to their products, however on those days I’m not wanting to wear much makeup their Blemish Remedy Foundation has been perfect for balancing out my skin tone and making it look that little bit more flawless. It’s a mineral powder foundation with a light-coverage which wouldn’t be something I’d normally choose as I tend to favour liquid formulas, however I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how this works for me. And if you’re after more coverage, it’s a great foundation to wear under what you’d normally wear – it’s formulation contains Aspen Bark and Tea Tree Oil which both encourage clearer, blemish-free skin and I’ve certainly noticed a difference through using it. To add a little colour to my cheeks, I’ve also been using their Mineral Blush in Cheerful* which is a very true pink shade that gives me a healthy-looking flush.

When it comes to makeup, eyeshadow palettes are my weakness. They’re that product that I always find myself attracted to the most, and this palette is certainly like none other I’ve tried. The bareMinerals Ready Eyeshadow 4.0* palette photographed above is The Elements which unfortunately I’m not sure is available anymore, however their eyeshadow formula in general is incredible. Highly-pigmented colours, these shadows are easy to blend and can be worn both day and night. I never thought I’d see the day I was enjoying using a pale green, amber or teal coloured eyeshadow but these shades have been getting a whole lot of wear recently. I’ve especially enjoyed using the teal shadow in the outer third to smoke out my eye a little during the day as it isn’t as heavy as the darker shadows I’d usually go for. I’m typically more of a drug-store gal when it comes to mascara as I don’t always believe that high-end mascaras are truly all that. However, when I was kindly gifted this Flawless Definition Curl and Lengthen Mascara* I’ve been nothing but surprised by how this works on my lashes. Whilst it certainly by no means gives me the most dramatic look, I love wearing this on a daily basis as I know it won’t be half-way down my face by the end of the day. At first I found it a little watery, so it’s definitely one of those mascaras that work better once they’ve dried up a little = but it’s one I’d certainly recommend trying out!

Have you tried any bareMinerals products? If so, what are your favourites? I’d love to know! I’m after a few of their brushes next…

P.s. – If you live around the North East, if you pop into their stand at Fenwick Newcastle and state the name of my blog, you’ll can receive a free deluxe sample of the foundations!

CURRENT EVERYDAY MAKEUP ESSENTIALS

19492694382_c16c9e410c_h

I’ll let you in on a little secret here; I shot these photographs a few months ago and totally forgot about them. But I found them in a lost file, and low and behold – these makeup products are still my absolute must-use essentials, so that has to be saying something right?! Whilst I do really enjoy to play around with new makeup looks and use products in different ways, on a day to day basis I tend to stick to what I know works for me. And these are 5 products that do it for me, time and time again.

– MAC MSF in Lightscapade – I’ve mentioned this a few times on my blog, so I’ll keep it short – but this is holy grail for me. I can’t not use it every single day. Instead of using it as a highlighter, I love to just lightly dust this all over my face to give it a natural glow. It really helps lift my dull skin and always helps maintain my foundation, giving it a helping hand in looking flawless throughout the day. If there’s one thing I couldn’t live without – it’s this bad boy.

– MAC lipstick in Twig – After months of lusting after it, I picked up this lipstick when out makeup shopping with Helen around Easter time. Having fallen in love with the Spice lipliner over Christmas time, I knew I had to try out this lipstick. It took a little patience as it was out of stock for a while, but I finally got my hands on it and I love it. My perfect dark nude, it’s that perfect inbetween brown and pink shade. It’s one of those chuck it on and you’re good to go colours, ideal for day to day wear.

– Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Permanent Taupe – I’ve owned this product for as long as I can remember, but having not enjoyed it as an eyeshadow base – it made it’s way to the back of my makeup storage. However, a few months ago, I was really curious over the eye brow pomade products, so being on a budget, I decided to shop my stash and decided to this a go. Used along side a Barry M Eyeliner brush, this has totally changed my brow routine. I was admittedly rather rubbish beforehand, but I have to say, I’m pretty darn in love with what this combo does to my brows. And it’s all under a tenner – winning!

– No7 Stay Perfect Shade and Define in Coffee Bean – I think I originally heard about this through Alix’s blog (one of my favourites) and I loved the sounds of it. I’ve not yet nailed the whole smoked out eyeliner thing, but this lovely product is helping me along the way. A deep chocolate shade, on days I’m not wearing liquid eyeliner (which, atm is most #hayfeverproblems) I use this to line my upper eyelid and waterline before slightly blending out to add that little bit definition. It’s a bit of a foolproof product, and a massive bargain if you get your hands on one of those No7 vouchers!

– Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara – For me, I tend to just buy the mascara that’s on offer. Guilty as charged. However, after trying out this Maybelline offering, I have to say, I’m already buying back ups. It adds plenty of length, lifts my eyelashes and gives them some much needed volume. I’m definitely a girl who likes quite a lot of mascara on a daily basis (because I look like an egg otherwise) and this product definitely does the job. Plus it doesn’t melt down the side of my face through the day, result!
