It’s that time of the year again, where I talk about my favourite makeup products of the year. In 2014 I posted them all in one giant post but I decided to do something a little differently this year and I’ll be splitting them up to eyes, lips, base and everything else (i.e. everything non-beauty product related). And first up is my favourite, all about the eye makeup.
Starting off with palettes, there’s been one that has really stuck out to me this year – the Lorac Pro Palette 2. I’m lucky to own the original Lorac Pro Palette too (which I mentioned in last year’s favourites, coincidentally!) and whilst that is one of my favourites, there’s something about this one which I love all that bit more. Maybe it’s the colours themselves, but I’ve never seen a palette quite like it shade-wise. My favourites have to be Nectar, which is a terracotta-peach matte, Cool Gray, a warm gray (ironically) matte and Rose which is a rose gold shimmer as the name would suggest. The formula of these is incredible, highly pigmented and they blend like a dream – so if I were to suggest one thing for people to try out, it would certainly be this. I know it’s practically impossible to get a hold of in the UK but if you get the opportunity, it’s well worth picking up!
Speaking of eyeshadows, I’m normally one to favour palettes due to the handiness of them but there are two single eyeshadows that I’ve been reaching for a lot this year; an old favourite and the other a relatively recent find of mine. One that’s been hiding in the back of my makeup collection for as long as I can remember is MAC eyeshadow in Amber Lights which I’d describe as a bright copper shimmer. I’ve always been a little hesitant on how to wear it but this past year it’s become a real staple for me and on days when I’m feeling lazy, it’s a great for a wash of colour all over the lid, or even just blended into the crease. I tend to have my eye makeup as the focal point each day, so there’s nothing more I love than a daytime smokey eye. A Kiko store recently opened up in Newcastle so a little browse was totally necessary and that’s where I picked up this single shadow in 175 Dove Gray. I’d not heard much about their formulas so I wasn’t sure what to expect but I’ve been really pleasantly surprised with this one in particular, as it’s dark grey matte finish is perfect for when I’m wanting to smoke out an eye look. I think it can be quite difficult to find a colour like this that doesn’t have any shimmer to it, but alas I’ve found the answer – and it’s buttery formula makes it super easy to blend.
In terms of brows, I’m still a bit rubbish with them and struggle most days to make them look presentable. However, using the Maybelline Color 24 Hour Tattoo in Permanent Taupe has been an absolute life-saver for me the past 12 months. Applied with an angled brush, I lightly brush this through my brows to add that little more shape and definition (as mine are really fine) as part of my daily makeup routine. I do have to be quite careful I don’t go overboard, because crispy brows, but the colour is a great match for me as it’s very cool toned. Plus it’s very afforable which is a great plus.
When it comes to eyeliners and mascaras, I don’t tend to buy them very often. And when I do, I’ll use them up until the very end. Mascara-wise, when I received this Benefit They’re Real Mascara in Brown I was slightly unsure whether I’d get much wear from it as I tend to favour quite dramatic eyelashes on a daily basis. However, I’ve really been enjoying using it over the past few months as it’s great for those days when I’m favouring a bolder lip. I find it a little uncomfortable to apply, but the result is well worth it. I’m normally very much of a quick swipe of liquid eyeliner and go kind of girl, however at the start of the year I had one of those No7 vouchers to spend (we all know the ones) so I treat myself to the No7 Stay Perfect Shade and Define in Coffee Bean. I’d describe the shade as being a deep chocolate brown with some glitter running through it. Primarily an eyeshadow stick I prefer to use this along my upper lash line blended out to create a smokey daytime look. I find the shade really complements my eye colour and I’ll certainly be picking up more to try in the new year!
So what are your eye makeup favourites? Anything you think I should give a go?
