MY TOP TIPS FOR A TOP SPRING CLEAN

HN Spring Detox

As someone who works from home, I find it very important that my surroundings are kept clean and tidy as well as being a rather calming environment. All of the furniture in my room is white which design-wise I love, but when it comes to cleaning, a whole lot of dusting is involved. Like I swear, dust can appear within minutes! So whilst I do tend to clean my room on a daily basis, I’m a huge advocate of giving my room a big Spring clean and a whole refresh. I recently posted a few simple tips and tricks when it comes to decorating a room for Spring on a budget, but when I was contacted by House Network in connection with their Spring Detox – I thought I’d share with you some of my tips for a Spring clean.

– First things first, whenever I’m tidying my room I always do it bit by bit. It’s easy to be tempted to move everything out of your room to get it out of the way, but chances are (if you’re like me) you’ll get fed up half way through and end up putting everything back where you last had it leaving it all a bit of a waste. So to combat this I do a corner of my room at a time, maybe a corner of my room for each day and it makes the whole task feel a lot less overwhelming!

– Quite like when I sort out my wardrobe, if I’m sorting out books/DVDs/etc I tend to put everything into three piles – the things I use and want to keep, the things I’m not sure about and the things that I’m happy to give away to charity. Chances are, the things that I’m feeling uncertain about are things I’ve not used for months and are just gathering dust – and if so, I’ll move them over to the charity pile. But if I’m struggling to decide, I’ll put those things aside for a week or so – if I don’t think about them, or use them, or find a place for them, then they go. Simple as really!

– As someone who tends to be rather sentimental, I normally keep a hold of everything that has a memory attached to it – whether that be a good one or a bad one. It’s a real awful habit of mine but I often struggle to let go of negative events that have happened in the past and I often hang on to those feelings attached to them. It’s something I’m working on, but something that has really helped has been getting rid of items which remind me of things I need to let go of.

– Once I’ve chosen everything that I want to keep, I’ll then start putting things back on the shelves, one by one. It can take a little time to arrange things how I like, but often I find things looking cluttered and if so, I begin the process again of sorting out the three piles based on what items I’m left with.
