The January sales started a little while ago now, but being on a serious budget at the minute (I mean, I’m having to contemplate removing Netflix only a few days before the new PLL, crazy right?) I like to look in the sales a few weeks into them, as that’s when the real bargains come out.
This year I’m really trying to hold back with the impulse purchases and really start to build a wardrobe of real staple pieces that I can wear each season – of course, with a few added trend pieces in there for good measure. My wardrobe is currently a total wash of different prints, colour palettes and cuts so it’s a little all over the place and I often struggle to match things up to outfits I’m completely happy with. There’s a few pieces that I just like but keep just incase and other pieces that I absolutely love but can never style them with what I have to work with. So I’m using these January sales to really try and pick up clothing in particular that fill the gaps in my wardrobe, and I think this wishlist reflects that.
I’m trying to go back to the basics, going for the more classic cuts and fabrics. Colour palette wise, I’m not necessarily thinking totally monochrome, instead the really muted sort of pastel shades have been standing out for me. For example, this pale blue jacket would look brilliant with many of the pieces I already own such as my collection of high neck jumpers and excessive amount of striped tops. For many years, I’ve not really been that much of a jeans girl, favouring skirts and tights over anything else six out of seven days of the week. However, I have fallen head over heels for the cropped kick flares this season. I managed to pick myself up a pair in the Topshop sales at Christmas Eve (which you’ll no doubt see in an outfit post very soon) and I am obsessed. It’s a bit of a struggle to find them exactly the right length, but these New Look ones pictured above are only £5… so it would be wrong not to give them a go, surely? I’ve loved styling mine with pointed flats on dressier days and my new Converse high-tops when I’m going for something a little more casual. They’re surprisingly versatile and are set to be all over the stores this year, so if you pick up one thing in the sales – it’s these!
